What to Expect During Your Hearing Assessment
During your appointment, with your consent, we will begin by taking a comprehensive history of your ear health, past conditions, balance symptoms, Tinnitus history, and some general medical history. We will then carefully inspect your ear canal and eardrum. If we notice any abnormalities, we will explain them clearly and, where appropriate, use a video otoscope to show you a live view for reassurance and clarity.
We will then carry out a full diagnostic audiometry assessment. This includes air conduction, bone conduction, and masking tests to fully evaluate how your ears respond to different sound frequencies and intensities and identify any referable conditions.
If needed, we will also perform tympanometry – a pressure test used to assess how well your eardrum and middle ear are functioning. This helps to identify issues such as fluid, blockages, or Eustachian tube dysfunction.
All assessments are carried out in line with strict referral criteria set out by NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) and our professional bodies: the BSA (British Society of Audiology), BAA (British Academy of Audiology), and BSHAA (British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists).
If we identify anything that requires further medical investigation, we will write and refer you to your GP with a full report.
Tailored Care & Advice
We’ll take time to fully understand how your hearing is affecting your daily life, and discuss any possible solutions to suit your personal needs. In some cases, no devices or treatments are required – simple reassurance, advice, and communication tips can be incredibly helpful.
Independent Audiology Advice You Can Trust
As an independent audiology service, we’re not tied to any manufacturers. This means we can recommend the most appropriate hearing technology for your needs, and offer a choice of care plans and pricing to suit your lifestyle and budget.
